So, if he was THAT bad playing almost everyday... which is how a player works out of a slump and how a player stays sharp... it's scary to consider how totally worthless he'll be coming off the bench. And you have to wonder how often he will come off the bench. Would you send Brandon Ryan up as a pinch-hitter??
Now, Tyler Green hasn't been anything special. He was 6 for 26 with a HR and a steal. But, he hasn't been overmatched by any stretch. He's been decent in the field too. He would have been the better choice to stick in my opinion. Doesn't seem like Tony LaRussa ever considered it though.
Oh well, not much of a loss to me.
To replace him I picked up free agent Joe Inglett. Don't know too much about him to be honest.

He's off to a fast start this year too... 12 for 35 with a steal. He's also eligible at both 2B and OF, which is a really nice bonus. I'm carrying 4 middle IF and would have had to picked up a free agent if one of them got hurt. That 2B eligibility creates a lot more roster flexibility for me. So on paper he has some good looking things going for him.
The negatives are... he's 31 years old and thus well past the point he'll breakout in any real way. Not a lot of upside. And then he is somewhat buried on the bench too. Ryan Braun, Corey Hart, Jody Gerut... Carlos Gomez and Jim Edmonds (both of whom will be back soon)... that is a crowded OF. 2B isn't any better either as Craig Counsell is the main backup there. Going to be hard finding at bats.
But, in the Mostly Lazy Boys League Joe Inglett qualifies as a decent free agent claim... so, I'm happy enough to have added him.
